Cinnamon Roll Mondays: A Tradition Worth Savoring
The last Monday of the month carries a different kind of energy at Renegade Parts Washers. It hums quietly at first, an undercurrent of anticipation that builds as the morning carries on. Work boots hit the floor a little faster. Conversations drift toward the break room. Calendars don’t need checking. Everyone knows.
It’s Cinnamon Roll Monday.
A long-standing monthly tradition, Cinnamon Roll Monday arrives with a sweet twist that feels less like a perk and more like a company-acclaimed holiday. By first break, a tidal wave of employees funnels toward the break room, drawn by the irresistible aroma of cinnamon, sugar, and warm dough.
Something sweet drifts through the shop air, lingering just long enough to pull everyone in.
For the past few years, this beloved tradition has been made possible by Renegade’s own cherished baker, the spouse of one of our assemblers, who graciously takes hours out of her mornings on these long-awaited days. Each batch arrives warm, gooey, and perfectly imperfect, set out on trays from a well-loved home kitchen, trays that never stay full for long.
“The moment those trays hit the table, I know it’s a race to the break room. I make sure I get there just before the rush hits,” one employee laughs.
And she’s not wrong.
It’s only a matter of time before the soft, spiraled dough is picked clean by an incoming storm of hungry workers. Not every month holds the same flavor; sometimes there’s a surprise filling tucked into the mix. That element of curiosity keeps things exciting, as if the air itself is holding its breath while her home bakery fills the room.
Of course, everyone has their own cinnamon roll ritual.
Some dive in immediately, icing cooled just enough on the surface to form a thin shell, revealing the smooth, caramel-like glaze beneath. Others take a more patient approach, popping their roll into the microwave for a few extra seconds of warmth, careful not to let the indulgent treat toast too long. Once overdone, the icing creates a flowing river of glaze, smothering the warm pastry in its own sweetness. The anticipation of the first bite hitting just right makes each method a small science, dedicated to crafting the perfect morning pastry.
Beyond the long-awaited sugar rush, something deeper is rising to the surface.
What lingers longer than the sweetness is what happens between the people in the room. The surge of excitement spills into the rest of the day. It invigorates the senses. It softens the edges of a busy Monday, easing the transition into a new work week. With each bite comes a visceral reminder to pause, slow down, and stay present, because before long, the moment will have passed too soon.
These simple pleasures aren’t meant to last forever. They exist briefly, sweet and fleeting, meant to be enjoyed fully in the present moment. The deeper you sink into the moment, the more that sense of bliss settles in. For a few minutes, time stretches. Conversation quiets as everyone savors their last few bites. The day feels lighter, and the anticipation of another long week ahead begins to loosen its grip.
The cinnamon rolls are sacred in their own way, messy, handmade, absolutely mouthwatering. And that’s what makes it more than a tradition.
At Renegade, we believe culture isn’t built through big speeches or polished mission statements alone. It’s built in shared moments. In gathering around a break room table. In showing up for one another in small, thoughtful ways. In catching up after the ease of the weekend and checking in on one another’s lives. Cinnamon Roll Monday reminds us that taking care of the people around you doesn’t have to be complicated; it can be as simple as a warm pastry and a reason to slow down together.
That mindset is baked into everything we do.
From the way we work side by side in the shop to the machines we build every day, care, intention, and craftsmanship remain at the center, just like our cinnamon rolls, made with heart, meant to be savored, and best enjoyed together.
